Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
