Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
