Indianapolis Colts Take On Falcons in Berlin – NFL Week 10
Hello, football fans. How are you? Alles klar I trust on this fine morning kickoff to the tenth week coming straight outta Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Indianapolis Colts (seven wins and two losses) face off against the Falcons (3-5). This marks the fifth matchup played on soil in Germany and the first in the capital city.
Pregame Key Moments
As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the commentator with an accidentally live microphone.
So, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have elected to receive. Daniel Jones and company will be setting up shortly. Will the QB bounce back after a rough one in Pittsburgh?
In a similar vein the singer belting out the Star Spangled Banner has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are ever likely to see. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choir performance for the national anthem of Germany. Classy.
Opening Period Action
Scoreless at 13:30 in the first
And we're off! And we have an exciting start after the Colts running back receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then fumbles … only for his offensive lineman to save his bacon with the recovery. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.
Still scoreless at 10:51
And the drama keeps coming as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The gamble fails to pay off as the wide receiver fails to catch a fastball from the quarterback. On the play before the turnover on downs the Falcons defender put a huge hit on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. Atlanta's defense started strong as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!
Score Recap
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the first round pick’s career to date.
So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. The Falcons quarterback is sacked and fumbles the football.
A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets Jonathan Taylor up to roll in for the score on the next snap. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter
The quarterback recovers from the turnover by leading Atlanta on a long drive for a score of their own. Drake London makes some chunky receptions to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for Tyler Allgeier to run untouched into the end zone through the heart of the field for a 13-yard gain. He completes the drive for a short scoring run of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
