Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only seven months after starting derogatory songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has signed a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road finished through agreement in August.

One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Past History Involving the Striker & Wilder

Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Chris Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
