Patson Daka Scores Late Leveler for Zambia Versus Mali in Afcon.

Patson Daka celebrating his crucial goal

Patson Daka ended a 20-month goal dry spell for Zambia with his last-gasp header in Morocco.

Patson Daka emerged as the savior for the Zambian side as his stoppage-time header earned a thrilling 1-1 share of the points against Mali at the 2025 continental finals in Morocco.

Eagles Seize First-Half Control

Lassine Sinayoko had broken the deadlock shortly after the 60-minute mark in the tournament's opening group clash at the Stade Mohammed V, drilling home from close range after his first effort from a corner kick had been deflected.

The Eagles dictated the play and were awarded an opportunity to take the lead in the final moments of the first half after Nene Dorgeles was tripped in the penalty area by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.

El Bilal Toure stepped up for Mali but his powerful strike was expertly kept out by Zambia goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.

Daka's Late Header

Daka eventually rescued a draw for the former champions, who were largely outmuscled by the aerial strength of their opponents until the defender's delivery into the box was met by the attacker.

Group A Standings

The result means both sides two points behind host nation Morocco in the group standings after Morocco won their opening game 2-0 against Comoros on Sunday.

Zambia will remain in Casablanca to face their second fixture against Comoros on the coming Friday, while Mali travel to the capital for a crunch match against the host nation.
